Ms Tanya Riebel

Provisional Psychologist
B. Psych (Hons.)

About me

My name is Tanya Riebel and I am a female provisional psychologist on a final clinical placement at Exclusive Wellbeing, located in Parramatta, Western Sydney.

I believe that everyone has a capacity, beyond their knowledge, to improve aspects of their life and working together in the therapeutic relationship can help reveal these strengths. I view clients holistically and seek to integrate clients’ own understanding of the world as a key component in achieving greater wellbeing. Through appreciating the functions of our behaviour, motivations, and choices, the dynamics between the person and environment begin to shift and build greater areas of strengths.

I am curious by nature and believe no issue is too small to speak about in therapy. This is from lived experience through working in the field of disability, creative arts and customer service.

Why choose me

I believe everyone deserves a space to ‘come as you are’, without judgement or worry about what others may perceive. I enjoy working with clients who especially feel like they have ‘no voice’ or a place to share how they feel or see the world. I will take time to help process and discover personal insight and practical solutions for an improved quality of life. I seek to support personal growth, respect and work along-side clients to provide an open and safe space for this.

I have previous experience in working with adult client populations experiencing depression, anxiety, work/study stress and perfectionism. My most recent experience is providing psychological intervention and therapy to children and carers within the Out of Home Care system. I provided therapeutic care for clients with complex social and psychological difficulties, including issues relating to experiences of violence, abuse and neglect. It is here where I developed a deeper insight towards seeing a person beyond their circumstances. I have seen the impact of how building relationships can make meaningful change and heal our inner selves. I continue to provide compassionate and reflective care and an interest in providing trauma-informed and culturally responsive care.

I balance flexibility and structure in sessions, prioritising the response to client needs. I have an empathic and intuitive nature, which enables me to comfortably explore the roots of client’s difficulties in a safe environment.

Therapy approaches/modalities used in my work

I have been primarily trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I apply elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and have experience in seeing these modalities through trauma-focused care.

As I strongly believe the best approach is dependent on the client’s current symptoms and their preferences, I seek to continue to develop modalities under the professional guidance and supportive clinical supervision at Exclusive Wellbeing. I aim to enhance my skills in ACT, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Schema therapy and apply psychodynamic knowledge, which are all areas I have been introduced to within my post-graduate training.

My credentials

I completed my Bachelor of Social Science (Psychology) in 2018, Bachelor of Psychological Studies (Honours) in 2019. I am currently in my final year of the Masters of Clinical Psychology degree at Western Sydney University. I currently hold provisional registration through the Psychology Board of Australia and will pursue the Clinical Psychology endorsement once graduated.

Professional Association

I am a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and a member of the Australian Clinical Psychology Association (ACPA).

Areas of my specific interests

I am utilizing all opportunities to further explore my professional interests at this last stages of my final placement. I currently have interest working with adolescents to adults across the lifespan who have low self-esteem, trauma and risky behaviours.

My ideal client would be anyone who desires self-improvement. The great thing about this work is that anyone can benefit, and turning up to a session is a win in itself and provides the basis of starting change and developing insight.

As a provisional psychologist completing my clinical training, there are no third-party rebates available for my sessions. However, session fees are fully private and heavily subsidized. Please see the attached fee scheduled.
