- Our Team
My name is Sharyn Renshaw and I am a female Psychologist working in private practice at Exclusive Wellbeing, located in Parramatta, Western Sydney. I believe my work is not only informed by my work experiences over the last 23 years across a range of industries including psychological recovery, employment placement, rehabilitation, intellectual disability and aged care; but through lived experience. I continue to be inspired by the people who seek my support and I look forward to hearing from you and sharing your journey.
Why choose me
I am here to understand your current worries, concerns and triggers. I am here to guide you in finding tools to address those issues that are troubling you right now. I take time to listen and hear what has surfaced in your life that is triggering difficulties for you. I take time to explore and help you to clarify and define your goals and to map a path to help you journey toward shifts that you would like to make in your life and to help you to equip yourself with tools and skills to navigate through the difficult patches in your life.
Therapy approaches/modalities used in my work
My work with people is inherently underpinned by a strengths-based and recovery oriented model. We all have strengths and qualities that can be shaped and enhanced to equip us to journey toward our individual version of a more meaningful life. When we are distressed, overwhelmed, feeling burdened by external pressures and struggling with our own internal doubts it can be difficult to remember these qualities. Given this basis, I draw heavily upon therapeutic approaches that are congruent with this philosophy, in particular Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT). Other therapeutic approaches that I use to support people on their personal recovery journey include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy, and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT).
I started my career upon completing a Bachelor of Arts, Honours Degree in Psychology in 1991, following which I underwent the necessary requirements of supervised practice and achieved full registration as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia. It has been important to me to maintain the currency of my skills by full and active participation in a program of continuing professional development, with a focus upon developing techniques in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT).
During my career I have also at different times been encouraged to take up leadership positions and to support my journey in this area I undertook and completed a Masters of Management. My work and studies in this area have given me particular insight into the human experience within a work context, the difficulties that can be encountered in this environment, the importance of meaningful activity and how these environments can be shaped to support multiple objectives.
During the course of my career as a Psychologist I am currently and have been a member of the Australian Psychological Society for over 10 years.
Areas of my specific interests
My clinical areas of interest include working in adult mental health with adults and young adults who may be experiencing anxiety, complex trauma, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or a Personality Disorder.
