Mr Masud IbrahimPsychologist (Clinical Registrar)
Bachelor of Psychology (Honours), Master of Clinical Psychology
My name is Masud Ibrahim, a male psychologist working at Exclusive Wellbeing located in Parramatta in Western Sydney. I believe in working with each client in a collaborative manner where they can feel empowered in setting their therapeutic goals unique and relevant to their circumstances, and work towards achieving them. To achieve this, I view a client holistically, understanding their history and their environment, as well as their areas of strengths. While the client is in the driver’s seat, I remain present with them along their therapeutic journey. I believe all clients should feel understood and validated, and I aim to foster strong therapeutic relationships with each client by maintaining a warm and empathic approach, as well as showing respect for them as an individual.
Why choose me
I genuinely enjoy working with and supporting people through difficult circumstances being it mental health issues or difficulties in effective interpersonal communication. I possess a naturally warm disposition and a non-judgemental attitude which helps clients feel comfortable in our engagement, particularly in those who are anxious or those seeing a therapist for the first time. I have developed these qualities from my lived experiences in both individualist and collectivist cultures. This knowledge of diverse cultures provides me with deep understanding of family dynamics and different communication styles, and informs my ability to view situations from different perspectives and insight, As a result, I am able to work with clients from diverse backgrounds and ages. While I am warm, empathetic, and supportive, I can equally provide greater encouragement and challenging to those who require a bit of a push, enabling my clients to move forward towards their goals and towards a meaningful life worth living.
I have experience working with clients with a history of trauma, anxiety, depression, OCD, personality disorder or traits, and with symptoms including self-harm, suicidality, difficulties controlling emotion, impulsivity and self-damaging behaviours, and relationship difficulties, using evidence-based treatment. I have experience working with youth, adolescents and adults.
Therapy approaches/modalities used in my work
My practice involves various therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapies (CT, BT, CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
While some people engage well with a cognition-based therapy, others work better with a behaviour-based or emotion-based therapy. The therapeutic approach I apply is dependent on the client’s current symptoms, presentation and preference, and is catered to their unique needs.
I employ a holistic approach to therapy and acknowledge the benefits positive sources of support can provide in a client’s therapeutic journey. I apply a person-centred and strength-based approach to working with clients which involves identifying and utilising their areas of strengths, which some clients may not realise they have.
I completed my Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) in 2018 and my Master of Clinical Psychology in 2020 at Western Sydney University. I am an accredited psychologist through the Psychology Board of Australia and currently working on my Clinical Psychology endorsement. I have undergone further professional development and training in clinical skills and treatment for working with people with personality disorder, self-harm/suicidal ideation.
I am a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and a member of the Australian Clinical Psychology Association (ACPA). I am an accredited provider through Medicare and Private Health Funds.
Areas of my specific interests
My areas of interest include working with depression, anxiety, OCD, personality disorder, and with individuals seeking self-improvement. The great thing about psychology is that a person does not have to have a disorder to have therapy. I have an interest in working with individuals striving to better understand themselves, striving for self-improvement and reaching their potential, striving for self-actualisation. My interest is in working with youth/adolescents and adults.
I provide General Private Services and services under Medicare which attract Medicare Rebate.
